Summary
If certain conditions are met, the first scheduled incremental backup won't happen after changes. The reconcile task also won't run. Instead, the incremental backup task runs after the base (full) backup task is executed.
Agent-based backup:
- In earlier versions, you could change the Deduplication Compression level, or vice versa. However, with the latest version, you cannot change the level anymore.
- Upgrade from ActiveImage Protector 2.x to ActiveImage Protector 3.x
- Upgrade from ActiveImage Protector 3.0/3.1 to ActiveImage Protector 3.5.
- Upgrade from an earlier version of ActiveImage Protector 3.5 to the new version of ActiveImage Protector 3.5
- Upgrade from ActiveImage Protector 2018 or earlier versions to ActiveImage Protector 2022 or later
- Change backup source
- Enlarge or reduce the size of backup source disk or volume
Agentless Backup:
- Upgrade from ActiveImage Protector 2018 to ActiveImage Protector 2022 or later
- When changing the backup source, such as when one guest machine selects multiple disks, and some disks aren't consistently connected to the guest machine, a full backup is executed for the first backup after the restore task.
- If the backup source VHD/VHDX is a dynamic disk or VMDK is thin-provisioned, and the disk size increases or decreases (even if the volume size within the disk remains unchanged).
- When using RCT for backing up a Hyper-V guest machine, you'll find .mrt/.rct files in the same folder as the virtual disk. You can manually delete these files when the guest machine is shut down. However, deleting them interrupts the incremental backup chain. The incremental backup task will fail with Error-603 until the next full backup task is executed. To fix this, manually run the full backup task or wait for the next scheduled full backup task.
* The Reconcile feature was present in ActiveImage Protector 3.1 and newer versions. However, starting from ActiveImage Protector 2018 Update 7 or later, the Reconcile feature is no longer available due to a change in the method of change tracking for incremental backup.
* ActiveImage Protector 3.5 or later versions include the Deduplication Compression feature.
