Reminder before deploying Actiphy Authentication Service (AAS)

Please keep in mind of the following when deploying Actiphy Authentication Service (AAS).

Summary

1) What is Actiphy Authentication Service (AAS)?
When ActiveImage Protector 2018 (AIP2018) is installed on a computer having an internet connection, activation will be attempted by directly accessing the Actiphy’s Online Activation Server. If you do not have direct internet access, Actiphy Authentication Service deployed in the same LAN works as the proxy server for Actiphy’s Online Activation Server, and enables license authentication and activation for ActiveImage Protector 2018.

2) Authentication method for AIP2018
The license authentication and activation request for AIP2018 is processed in the following order. After the first activation, the subsequent activation is automatically performed once a day.
When the product is not activated for 30 days, AIP2018’s backup feature will be disabled.
When the product is activated again, the backup feature will be enabled again.

(1) Accessing AAS by domain DNS name
PC with AIP2018 installed will attempt to detect AAS by performing domain DNS queries and request for the product activation.

(2) Discover AAS using network broadcasts
In the environment with no Internet connection and in workgroup environment, PC with AIP2018 installed will attempt to discover AAS using network broadcasts and request for the product activation.

(3) Directly access Actiphy’s Online Activation Server
When Actiphy’s product is installed on PC having an internet connection, activation will be attempted by directly accessing the Actiphy’s Online Activation Server.

3) Deployment of AAS

(1)AAS works as a standalone activation server
In offline environment without internet connection, AIP2018 and AAS may be installed on the same machine and the product activation is attempted using network broadcasts to IP address such as APIPA.

(2)Local authentication
A server with AIP2018 and AAS installed requests for the product activation. Deployment of AAS on multiple computers within the same LAN complicates the discovery process of AAS by using network broadcasts, you are recommended to deploy one AAS in one segment.
