Summary
Even if scheduled vStandby tasks run as expected, the OS may not boot from the virtual standby replica. This issue arises when specifying a virtual machine on an ESXi6.7 or later host as the standby source and another ESXi6.7 or later host as the target. If a snapshot is taken with the [Quiescing guest file systems] option enabled, the task may complete successfully, but the virtual standby replica does not boot.
Additionally, when the standby source is a virtual machine on an ESXi6.7 or later host, and the target host is Hyper-V, enabling [Quiescing guest file systems] during snapshot results in an Exit -701 error.
This is a compatibility issue when the standby source is a virtual machine on an ESXi6.7 or later host.
Workaround
1) Delete vStandby schedule settings.
- Check the box for [Delete virtual standby replica].
2) Delete the snapshot of standby source.
- Ensure [Quiescing guest file systems] option is enabled.
3) Set up the schedule settings for the vStandby task again.
