The license usage timing is altered in ActiveImage Protector 2022 and later. 

ActiveImage Protector Server
The license is used when creating an agent-based or agentless backup task. You can modify the backup method by deleting the backup task.

ActiveImage Protector Desktop
The product license is used during product activation. 

ActiveImage Protector Linux , Server / Linux included in vPack
The license is used when activating the installed product.
