Summary
A WinPE/RE-based boot environment, created without including ESXi drivers, doesn't identify devices like VMXNET3, VMware Paravirtual, and LSI Logic Parallel in ESXi. While you can add drivers in WinPE/RE, getting ESXi drivers is inconvenient. It's advisable to temporarily add a default driver that the system recognizes easily.
Workaround
Modify the device settings when the virtual machine is not running.
- If SCSI controller is VMware Paravirtual or LSI Logic Parallel, please replace it with LSI Logic SAS.
- If network adapter is VMXNET3, please replace it with E1000e, or otherwise add network adapter of E1000e.
Next, utilize the WinPE/RE-based boot environment. Pause the virtual machines, revert the previous adjustments, and start the OS when booting the WinPE/RE-based boot environment. If you opt for the Linux-based boot environment, the NIC or storage interface employed in ESXi will be acknowledged.
