Depending on the circumstances of the system environment, there are two basic recommendations for replication.
Variant 1
You are using a fixed local or cloud-based target storage. In this case, one of the 4 options should be selected from the area marked in red.
- If the upload speed is sufficient to transfer the full backups, select "All image files" or "Only last generation backup files". The difference between these two options is that the first variant always completely transfers all image chains from the source to the target, and the second variant only transfers the most recent image chain from the source to the target. Older data is automatically deleted. This option is useful if there is less disk space available in the destination than in the source.
- If the upload speed is not sufficient to transfer the full backups, you can select "Only the incremental backup files" or "Only last generation's incremental files". The difference between these two options is that the first variant always completely transfers all incremental files of all image chains from the source to the target, and the second variant only transfers the incremental files of the latest image chain from the source to the target. Older data is automatically deleted. This option is useful if there is less disk space available in the destination than in the source.
Variant 2
You are using a rotating local target storage. In this case, the lower option marked in red should be selected. This ensures that, regardless of the status of the data on the target storage, the old and new image files on the target storage are identical to the image files of the source.
- When scheduling, the first option, "Immediately" is the default recommendation, as this is where replication is carried out if new image files have also been created and checked. This means that the backups are saved in the target volume as quickly as possible.
- A collective transfer can be used with the second option "After each XX new incremental file(s)". For example, with a backup interval of "every 15 minutes", incremental files with the setting "4" can only replicate the 4 newest image files once an hour.
- If you want to upload once a day at a fixed time due to the bandwidth or for other reasons, the third option is "At XX". Interval settings for weeks / months and days can then be made.
