Details
When operating a standby replica or standby VM created using vStandby AIP, HyperStandby, or vStandby, please be aware of the following behavior.
Delete operation
When performing the following operation, you will receive a message asking if you want to delete the standby replica or standby VM. Depending on the operation and the hypervisor, the behavior differs as follows.
vStandby -- When deleting a schedule
vStandby AIP/HyperStandby -- When deleting a profile
When the operation is performed on ESXi guest
When you click [OK] without checking the [Delete standby VM] box, the standby replica will be retained.
When you check the [Delete standby VM] box and click [OK], both the inventory and the created virtual files will be completely deleted.
The same behavior occurs when you right-click on the target ESXi virtual guest in vCenter or the ESXi web browser and select [Delete].
When the operation is performed against Hyper-V guest
When you click [OK] without checking the [Delete standby VM] box, the standby replica is retained.
When you check the [Delete standby VM] box and click [OK], the virtual guest name is deleted from Hyper-V Manager, but the vmdk files remain and must be deleted manually.
This same behavior occurs when you right-click the virtual guest in Hyper-V Manager and select [Delete].
Cautions
1) When you try to delete a running standby replica or standby VM, it will not be deleted.
2) When deleting a standby VM on Hyper-V in vStandby AIP/HyperStandby, you won't see a message about deleting the standby VM. Since vStandby AIP development is complete, no patches will be released. For HyperStandby, a patch will be released to display a deletion message, similar to vStandby.
* ActiveImage Protector 2018 and earlier versions supported vStandby AIP.
* HyperStandby, the successor to vStandby AIP, is included in ActiveImage Protector 2022 and later versions.
