Details
Follow these steps to create or update Deploy USB media using an existing backup image file.
For example, these three image files are used to embed in Deploy USB media:
- Full (.aiv)
- Incremental (.aii)
The image file is in the root of the 2nd volume (label: "Image Data") on the USB media. If no drive letter is assigned, right-click the Windows Start menu, select Disk Management, then right-click the Image Data volume, choose Change Drive Letter and Paths, and assign a drive letter.
Create Deploy USB Media
Preparatory Steps
Prepare the source image file and target USB media. Since the USB disk will be formatted, back up any important data beforehand. Note that formatting will erase deployment licenses.
You can access the source image by connecting the Deploy USB or by copying the full and incremental image files (along with the three mentioned files) to your Desktop. If both full and incremental images exist, place them in the same folder.
Operating Procedures
1) Open ActiveImage Deploy USB or Deploy Media Creator.
2) Select Create Deploy USB Media.
3) In the [Image to Deploy] Option area, choose Embed existing [Image to Deploy] in this USB device. Click the [...] button and browse to the folder containing the image files. For example, select the second incremental file.
4) Follow the remaining steps to copy the full and incremental files and create the boot environment on the USB.
If you select the full image, only the full image will be copied. If you select the first incremental image, both the full and first incremental images will be copied. When deploying with the created USB, it will restore the full image plus any incremental images up to the copied version.
Update USB Media
Preparatory Steps
Prepare the source and target USB media. Ensure the boot environment on the target USB is created with the Deployment license key. If different license keys are used for the source and target USB, refer to Note 1 below.
You can access the source image by connecting the Deploy USB or by copying the full and incremental image files (along with the three mentioned files) to the Desktop. If both images are present, keep them in the same folder.
1) Open ActiveImage Deploy USB or Deploy Media Creator.
2. Click Update USB Media.
3. Check the box for Replace the embedded image file. Click the [...] button and browse to the image file (e.g., the second incremental file).
4. Select the USB to update and click Update. Click OK when the confirmation message appears.
The update process will begin. Once completed, the full and incremental files will be copied, and the boot environment will be created on the Deploy USB.
Select Full to copy the full backup image. If the first incremental image is selected, both the full and first incremental image will be copied.
Note 1
If multiple Deploy USBs with different license keys are attached during the Update USB Media process, the following message will appear, and the update may fail.
In this case, save the image files to local storage or remove the Deploy USB with the embedded image files. The detected license keys will be shown. Attach the USB with the image files copied to the Desktop or the original image files, browse to them, and update the USB media.
The license and the image files for Deploy Media Creator and Deploy USB are not compatible.
Image files created with ActiveImage Protector cannot be embedded in Deploy USB.
Create or update Deploy USB Media using the same product that created the image file to embed it.
