How to exclude VSS Writer

Summary

If backups fail with a specific VSS Writer, you can exclude that VSS Writer as a workaround.

Workaround

1) To identify the specific VSS Writer name for exclusion, open cmd.exe with administrator privileges and run "vssadmin list writers".

2) Find the "Writer name" of the VSS Writer you wish to exclude. For example: Writer name: 'MSSearch Service Writer'

3) Please add the parameters by opening Aip.ini in the installation path with a text editor. Fill in the name in the [aipcopy] section and save the file.

Notes

We suggest troubleshooting the VSS Writer before considering exclusion. If you decide to exclude the VSS Writer, ensure there are no issues when restoring the system. We cannot support problems arising from exclusion.
