Details
From ActiveImage Protector 2022 (v7.8.0.10194), a new option “Specify Hyper-V Database VMs” is available under Advanced Backup Options in Step 2: Select Destination. It supports Hyper-V on Windows Server 2016 and later.
In older versions, if an application-consistent (operational) checkpoint failed, the system would switch to a standard checkpoint, which could create inconsistent backups if VSS errors occurred inside the VM.
With this option enabled, only application-consistent checkpoints are used. If a VSS error occurs, the backup job fails instead of creating an inconsistent backup, ensuring data integrity.
Earlier versions (before 7.8.0.10194)
- Try an operational checkpoint
- If it fails, switch to a standard checkpoint
- If the standard checkpoint also fails, the backup fails
Version 7.8.0.10194 or later (with “Specify Hyper-V Database VMs” enabled)
- Use only operational checkpoints
- If it fails, the backup fails immediately (no fallback)
Important after upgrade
If you upgrade and migrate schedules to v7.8.0.10194 or later, edit the HyperBack schedule for the VM, enable this option, and run a full backup.
