When the backup task fails, the task log records [Exit Code: -311]

Symptoms

When a backup task fails, [Exit Code: -311] appears in the task log. This error is linked to VSS (Volume Shadow Copy) and happens during the snapshot preparation stage. To investigate further, review the error in the Windows event log.

Windows Application log:
Log Name: Application
Source: VSS
Level: Error

Windows System log:
Log Name: System
Source: volsnap
Level: Error

Resolution

–  Confirm the tracking drivers.
System Information — software environment — Check if there is “aiptrack” system driver.

– Reboot the OS after installation.
If you have not done a reboot after installation, it will not work properly.
* Error -999 occurs in Windows 2000 due to the absence of VSS implementation.

– Upgrade to the latest version.

– Check the Registry.
Incorrect registry values can lead to a -311 error.

Registry check and repair procedure:
1) Start the command prompt, type regedit, and then start the Registry Editor.
2) Delete the blank line of UpperFilters.

Value of AipTrack is recorded in the state that contains a blank line.

3) After restarting the operating system, please ensure that the backup is functioning correctly. 

If restart fails, please boot in safe mode.
After starting in safe mode, please restart once.
