Summary
Consolidate option notes:
Run the consolidate process from the computer performing incremental backup. If consolidated from another computer, it may cause inconsistencies in incremental backup management information. Subsequent incremental backups after consolidation are treated as reconciled.
* AIP version 3.5.7.1193 (SP5) supports running from another computer.
More information
Server A: AIP installation to a server for making backups.
Server B: AIP installation to a server to be used only for consolidating.
Step1) Create an image ( base + increment ) to the save destination of “Server A”.
1_00001.aiv
1_00001_i00001.aii
1_00001_i00002.aii
Step2) Consolidate two of the incremental files from Step 1 of “Server B”.
1_00001.aiv
1_00001_i00001.aii
Step3) When the incremental backup of “Server A” works, incremental by reconcile is created.
1_00001.aiv
1_00001_i00001.aii
1_00001_i00002.aii
Step4) If not consolidating from another computer, the next incremental will be incremental backups.
1_00001.aiv
1_00001_i00001.aii
1_00001_i00002.aii
1_00001_i00003.aii
* If you are not using reconcile, step 3) a base backup image is created, then Step 4) an incremental backup will be created.
Image file name, is held in the registry of the backup target environment.
Workaround is to run the consolidate from “Server A”.
2) In configuring replication, enable the “Only replicate new image files to this target”.
Upon binding only the replication destination of the backup image, the image name is shifted in the image location and replication destination.
The image sets of the replication destination becomes a problem.
Ex.)
Server A: AIP installation, backup creation target server, image destination.
Server B: Server where there is replication destination folder.
Step1) Create an image ( base + increment ) to the save destination of “Server A”.
Image destination:
1_00001.aiv
1_00001_i00001.aii
1_00001_i00002.aii
Replication destination:
1_00001.aiv
1_00001_i00001.aii
1_00001_i00002.aii
Step2) Use consolidate from “Server A”, replication destination to consolidate the two incremental files from step 1.
Image destination:
1_00001.aiv
1_00001_i00001.aii
1_00001_i00002.aii
Replication destination:
1_00001.aiv
1_00001_i00001.aii
Step3) When the “Server A” incremental backup is performed, it is as follows.
Image destination:
1_00001.aiv
1_00001_i00001.aii
1_00001_i00002.aii
1_00001_i00003.aii
Replication destination:
1_00001.aiv
1_00001_i00001.aii
1_00001_i00003.aii
The shift in the replication destination image set name prevents the use of incremental images associated with the replication destination. Before the incremental backup in step 3 on "Server A," ensure binding to both the image storage and replication destination.
3) The consolidation of the image, requires that the base and incremental images are in the same folder.
