When conducting a hot backup, ensure each volume has at least 10% free space not reserved by the system, as recommended by Microsoft. This allows for temporary space needed to create a VSS snapshot.
Note that VSS snapshots can be created on a different drive on the volume on which the shadow copy configuration can be modified. Then, if the reserved space is insufficient on a volume, review the following tips and consider switching to a volume with ample free space for the VSS snapshot destination.
