Summary
In SP2, some operations have been corrected to prevent disk initialization in certain cases:
– GUI startup and run the diskinfo command: Won't initialize in SP2.
– Backup operation: Will be initialized.
– Restore operation: Will be initialized.
Initialization affects all disks in the system, including backup and non-backup targets. If ASM is used in an uninitialized state (e.g., in Oracle's RAC), performing backup or restore will initialize the ASM disk.
If you run parted -l
and the partition table of a device is unknown, running backup and restore will change it to msdos type.
Before backup or restore:
Partition Table: unknown
After backup or restore:
Partition Table: msdos
