Summary
When backing up a Hyper-V replica VM, consider the following:
1) Since the backup data of the Hyper-V replica VM is not fixed to a specific host, you cannot predict if the backup data is for the primary or replica VM at the time of backup task execution. Consequently, selecting the latest backup image for restoration from the replica VM may result in incomplete backup data.
2) If changed data transmission and backup task execution happen simultaneously, the replication or backup task may fail. In case of replication task failure, you must manually rerun the replication task.
Due to these reasons, it is recommended to install ActiveImage Protector on the virtual machine on the Hyper-V host when backing up the Hyper-V replica VM. In this scenario, you need to purchase the Virtual Edition license for each host machine.
