Notes on deploying SUSE on BIOS boot environment

Summary

Booting from a backup image file of SLES/openSUSE on a BIOS boot environment fails with HyperBoot. The following describes the partition settings needed to enable booting from an image backup file using HyperBoot.

Details

If you install SLES/openSUSE on a BIOS boot environment with the default disk layout, the partition table is set to GPT. HyperBoot fails to detect the boot media and encounters an error when attempting to boot from a backup image file in this environment.

When deploying SUSE in a BIOS boot environment, navigate to [Partition Setting] – [Expert Partitioner] and choose [MS-DOS (legacy OS)] for the new partition table type.
