Summary
ActiveImage Protector has two boot environments: Windows PE-based and Linux-based. Here are their key differences.
Summary
Windows PE-based boot environment
- Create a Windows PE-based boot environment using Boot Environment Builder.
- To build Windows PE-based boot environments, install Microsoft Windows ADK on the host.
- Create bootable media by selecting DVD, USB flash memory, USB hard disk as well as ISO image.
- These media are not included in the product.
- Restoring the volume in reduced size is supported.
- You can use the created boot environment in various settings as long as its usage is properly licensed. No need to create a separate boot environment for each environment.
- Backup image files created by using Windows Server Edition/Desktop Edition can be restored in the boot environment.
Linux-based boot environment
- CentOS8-based boot environment
- When you buy the product, you get two pieces of media. The first is for installation, and the second is for a Linux-based boot environment.
- If you haven't bought the media, find the Linux-based boot environment ".iso" file in the \ISO folder of the downloaded ISO file. Write this file to a DVD in bootable format and use the DVD as the bootable media.
- The latest version of Linux-based bootable environment is downloadable from the following KB site:
https://enkb.actiphy.com?akb&p=2087
- You cannot create the latest version of the Linux-based bootable environment on your own.
- Utilize the Linux-based bootable environment when restoring backup image files created with Server Edition/Desktop Edition, Linux Edition.
- Avoid ejecting the media while the boot environment is active.
- You cannot restore image files created per disk in boot environment booted by using DVD media.
- Secure Boot is not supported.
