Summary
Copying a file from an image with an assigned drive letter may result in damage. While the File Copy task usually finishes without issues, there is a chance of file damage in some cases, especially when copying a large number of files. Additionally, if the mount driver in ActiveImage Protector becomes unresponsive, it can lead to various problems.
・Unmount is disabled.
・Explorer is disabled.
・Shut-down Windows is not disabled.
・BSOD occurs in the environment where File Copy task is running.
Workaround
To avoid issues when restoring a file from a backup image, upgrade to ActiveImage Protector 2022. Use the File Recovery or iSCSI Target Server features, as they don't rely on AIP's mount driver, preventing the mentioned problems.
AIP Console — Recovery — File Recovery
AIP Console — Image Manager — iSCSI Target Server
*iSCSI Target Server is available with Server Edition only.
Since Mount Image feature has been enhanced to use the File Recovery in Version 7.0.3.8919 and later, this article does not apply.
