File Backup tasks are canceled when Oracle is in No Archive Log Mode

Summary

File Backup relies on the normal behavior of the Oracle VSS writer when running VSS. However, if Oracle is in No Archive Log Mode, the File Backup task will be canceled.

Workaround

Please try one of the following workarounds.

1)  Switch from No Archive Log Mode to Archive Log Mode.

After the switch, the Oracle VSS Writer may be in an Error state.  To resolve, restart the Volume Shadow Copy service.

2)  If you intend to perform a File Backup task in No Archive Log Mode, disable or delete the Oracle VSS Writer.

To disable, stop the Oracle VSS Writer service. To delete, follow the provided instructions.
