To restore with ActiveImage Protector using a HyperBoot-created differential backup file (.aix):
- Open the HyperBoot Settings window.
- Enable "Do not delete HyperBoot recovery point when deleting boot settings for an image" under the destination settings.
The Save HyperBoot Recovery Point to location is optional. By default, differential files are saved to a specified destination.
HyperBoot Install path\RecoveryPoints\HB-ClientName_UUID\
If you enable the "Save to the same location as the original image set" option, differential files will be saved in the same location as the original image set.
The path to the destination saving ActiveImage Protector image files \HB-ClientName_UUID\
When a guest machine boots from HyperBoot, the differential file is initially saved as ".aix.000," which cannot be used as a differential file. Upon shutting down the guest machine, it is renamed to ".aix," making it usable with ActiveImage Protector.
Until the virtual machine settings are deleted from HyperBoot, data changes are written to the differential file (.aix.000 or .aix). To use the differential file, ensure the guest machine is shut down first.
For restoration, place the .aix file in the same folder as the original image file (.aiv/.aii) used with HyperBoot.
Following these steps adds the selected ".aix" file to the recovery point for use with ActiveImage Protector's Recovery.
Manually delete the differential file when it is no longer needed.
When booting a guest machine with HyperBoot, a temporary 0KB virtual disk is created in the following path, without using any free space.
HyperBoot Install path\HyperBoot-temp\HB-ClientName_UUID\
Deleting the VM settings for the virtual guest in HyperBoot automatically removes the files in the specified folder.
