ActiveImage Protector Service is not compatible with Windows Server 2025

Details

On a Windows Server 2025 domain controller with Windows updates installed, you may experience the following issues:

• ActiveImage Protector Service does not start.
• ActiveImage Protector installation or uninstallation freezes.
• The system restarts after installing ActiveImage Protector. 

Causes

This issue occurs after installing KB5062553. Once it occurs, uninstalling the update does not resolve it. 

Workaround

Additional Information (July 15, 2026)
The issue depends on which Windows Server 2025 cumulative update is installed. It does not occur with the June 9, 2026 update (KB5094125), and the ActiveImage Protector Service starts normally on a domain controller.

If you cannot install this update, you can work around the issue by modifying the security policy as described below. 

Update Windows Local Security Settings

1. Open Local Security Policy.
2. Go to Local Policies → Security Options.
3. Disable User Account Control: Run all administrators in Admin Approval Mode.
   
   
    
4. Restart Windows to apply the changes.
