Details
The Include new VMs in backup option was added to HyperBack (agentless backup) starting with ActiveImage Protector 2022 version 7.5.1.9530. Its behavior is described below.
Operational Specifications
- The feature works when a new virtual machine is added to the same hypervisor used by the HyperBack schedule.
- If multiple HyperBack schedules have this option enabled, only the first schedule that runs after the new VM is added will apply.
- If the schedule is set for a single VM, a new HyperBack schedule is created for the new VM using the same settings.
- If the schedule is set for multiple VMs, the new VM is added to the existing schedule.
Example:
Assume VM1–VM4 are virtual machines on the same hypervisor.
Two HyperBack schedules are configured with this option enabled:
Schedule 1 (Single VM): VM1
Schedule 2 (Multiple VMs): VM2, VM3
VM4 is added to the hypervisor.
The result depends on which schedule runs first:
If Schedule 1 runs first:
Schedule 1: VM1
Schedule 2: VM2, VM3
New Schedule 3: VM4
If Schedule 2 runs first:
Schedule 1: VM1
Schedule 2: VM2, VM3, VM4
