Details
QuickRecovery was first introduced in ActiveImage Protector Windows Edition version 7.0.0.8643. When restoring a Windows system using the AIP console, QuickRecovery or RescueBoot can be used to create a boot environment and complete the recovery. However, because of how this feature works, it may be difficult to determine the cause if an issue occurs.
Details
Example setup where AIP is installed:
- Disk 0: System
- Disk 1: Data
Backup location: Network folder
“Backup by disk” is disabled (default)
After recovery is completed on Windows using AIP, the following steps occur:
- Disk 1 restores automatically in Windows using AIP
- A boot environment is created (logs saved in the RescueBoot folder)
- The data drive is restored (logs saved in the Recovery folder)
- A restart message appears, and the system reboots to restore Disk 0
- Disk 0 restores automatically in the boot environment (QuickRecovery window)
- When the green screen confirms success, click “System Reboot” to return to Windows
- Disk 1 logs are deleted during the next step
- Disk 0 logs are saved in memory and are hard to access
Use this feature with caution. For Windows system recovery, consider:
- Enabling RescueBoot and restoring
- Creating a boot environment first, then restoring
